Professor Alexandru Rafila is a Romanian physician, microbiologist, academic, and politician who has served as Minister of Health of Romania (2021–2025) and previously as Deputy Speaker of the Romanian Parliament. With extensive experience in public health administration, he has held roles as Secretary of State, Director of the Public Health Institute Bucharest, and Advisor to the Minister of Health.

He is President of the Romanian Society of Microbiology and Head of the Microbiology Department at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy “Carol Davila”. Internationally recognized, Professor Rafila has served as an expert for the WHO, NATO, and European Commission, and represented Romania in the WHO Executive Board and the ECDC Management Board.

He holds a Medical Degree (1987) and a Ph.D. in Microbiology (2004), and has authored numerous scientific works in microbiology and public health
