Dr Laurentiu Micu is a Senior Consultant in Internal Medicine. He joined the Internal Medicine Clinic at Fundeni Clinical Institute, Romania, in 2001 as a scientific research assistant and was promoted to scientific researcher in 2007.

He graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at Carol Davila University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Bucharest, in 1996. In 2000, he qualified as a general practitioner, became a specialist in Internal Medicine in 2005 and attained senior specialist status in Internal Medicine in 2012.

In 2008, he was awarded a PhD in Medicine for his thesis entitled ‘Predictive Factors of Response to Antiviral Therapy in Chronic HBV and HCV Infections’, under the supervision of Professor Lucian Buligescu.

Dr Micu is currently a member of the Hepatology Subcommittee of the Romanian Ministry of Health and serves as Secondary Research Coordinator at Fundeni Clinical Institute.

In terms of his scientific contributions, Dr Micu has delivered more than 150 oral presentations at national and international congresses and symposia, and has published over 40 articles in professional journals. He has served as principal investigator or sub-investigator in more than 25 Phase II, III and IV clinical trials.

He is also a member of the Executive Committee of the Romanian Association for the Study of the Liver and belongs to Romtransplant, the Romanian Society of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Digestive Endoscopy, and the Romanian Society of Internal Medicine. In addition, he serves on the editorial boards of the Journal of Translational Medicine and Research and the Romanian edition of The Lancet Oncology.
